Weeks - A life, in weeks
Eighty-five years is 4,420 weeks.
Not so many that you cannot hold them.
Tell it your age. It draws every week of a life as a grain of sand, pours the ones you have already lived down the drain, and hands you the rest in a glass.
Then it does the arithmetic nobody asks for. Sleep takes its share. Work takes its share. The commute, the screens. Four containers fill while you watch and the shelf bends under the weight, and what is left at the end is the part nobody has already spoken for. It is less than you thought, and it is not nothing.
That part is yours. Reach into the glass, take a handful, and put it somewhere: Health, Love, Explore, Create, Play. The sand has weight. It collides, it spills, it heaps up and runs over the rim if you overfill. Health is the one that gives time back, and the glass answers when it does.
It ends on a single grain. This week. The one you are in.
CONTROLS
Mouse or touch. Type your age to begin, then drag sand out of the glass and throw it into a container.
THE NUMBERS ARE REAL
Sleep, work, commute and screen time come from the American Time Use Survey, the US Census Bureau and the CDC. The time health gives back comes from Moore et al., PLoS Medicine 2012, a pooled analysis of six cohorts and 654,827 people. Every figure has a source panel in the piece, and where a source gives a range it uses the conservative end. These are rounded population averages for adults, not a measurement of you.
NOTHING IS SENT ANYWHERE
No account, no analytics, no upload. Your age never leaves the tab. The card at the end is drawn on your device and saved to your downloads, and if you want anyone to see it you send it yourself.
ACCESSIBILITY
Reduced motion is a full alternate sequence rather than a shortened one: the same four acts and the same numbers with the physics removed. All text is real DOM text, so it is selectable and screen-readable rather than painted onto the canvas.
HOW IT WORKS
About 3,000 grains live in a falling-sand cellular automaton, uploaded as one texture in a single draw call. Only the handful you are actually touching get promoted to Rapier rigid bodies, and they demote back into the pile when they come to rest. A week is never destroyed: every grain that leaves the chart either drains by design or lands in a pile.
